Our Story

The only Japanese-family-owned restaurant in the neighbourhood
We're a husband-and-wife team from Japan, now raising our Auckland-born son right here in West Harbour.
It all started in 2014, when we opened a small food truck with nothing but a passion for real, home-style Japanese cooking. After four years on the truck, building relationships with the neighbourhood one meal at a time, we opened our doors as a restaurant in 2019 — and thanks to the support of this community, we're still here, still cooking, and still growing.
From day one, our mission has stayed the same: honest, healthy Japanese food made the way we make it at home. We source local produce whenever we can, and almost everything on the menu — from the sauces to the sides — is made from scratch.
We've always believed in being open about who we are and why we cook the way we do. Our regulars know how much care goes into every plate — especially the okazu, the small side dishes in our Gozen Set, made the way you'd find them on a table in Japan. You won't find this anywhere else. It's just one small part of how we bring a taste of home to our neighbourhood, one meal at a time.
